NDIS funding can also be used to access Family Workshops. Family Workshops at Autism SA are designed for any family member or carer that supports an individual on the autism spectrum, as well as for individuals. They guide you through a range of activities to increase your knowledge, understanding and confidence – leaving you with practical and realistic strategies that you can take home.

Some of the workshops available in this term are:

  • Supporting girls and women on the autism spectrum
  • Supporting your child through high school
  • Managing school refusal
  • Sensory detectives: understanding and supporting sensory processing

Supporting girls and women on the autism spectrum

Suitable for parents and carers of individuals of all ages.
Girls on the spectrum can present with a different profile from that of their male peers and are three to four times less likely to be diagnosed than boys. This can mean that girls on the spectrum may be misunderstood, and not receive the most appropriate supports for their particular needs.

Managing school refusal

There are many reasons school can be challenging for people on the spectrum, and as a result parents may find themselves in a situation where their child is refusing to attend school. This session will look at potential reasons for school refusal, strategies and tips for making school attendance easier, in particular through working as a team with the school to increase school attendance.

Early Days Workshops

Early Days is a series of free workshops for parents, grandparents, and families of young children (0-6 years) who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder or who are going through the assessment and diagnostic process.

This initiative is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services through the Helping Children with Autism package.

There are a series of workshops available. Families may choose to attend one, several or all of the workshops. It is recommended to attend the “My Child and Autism” workshop first.
