It’s almost time for us to celebrate STEAM Week at Woodend Primary School!

This year, we will explore how species survival is more than sustainability, as we showcase our future-focused thinking, problem-solving, and the challenge of thriving in a changing world.

What is STEAM?

STEM Learning aims to develop the forward-thinkers, innovators, entrepreneurs, leaders, and shapers of tomorrow. STEM encourages young people to draw on skills from across the Science, Technology & Mathematics learning areas and use complex thinking to solve problems.

In STEAM Learning, we build on this, valuing the Arts in creating extra pathways for the expression of critical and creative thinking and in developing innovative solutions.

Important STEAM Week Information:

> Term 3 Holidays: Take Part in our ‘Family Design Challenge’

Families are invited to take part in our 2024 THRIVE Family Design Challenge.

We encourage families to take part in this fun challenge over the holidays! The sky’s the limit as you design something that makes life better for humans or animals. Family projects will be displayed at our Expo on Thursday evening and Friday.

This challenge invites your family to think creatively about how we can help humans or animals thrive, connecting to our theme of species survival and designing a better future.

We ask that all designs be brought to school on or before Wednesday of Week 1. Please ensure they are clearly labelled with your child’s name and a brief description. A template for this is available below or from the office. You may wish to complete this beforehand or help your child prepare what to write when they drop off their design.> Do you have a STEAM related interest, skill or career?

Register your interest in sharing your STEAM-related career, skills, or interest with a group of our students.

Families and friends of Woodend are invited to visit classes to share about their interest or career in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and/or Maths. This valued part of the STEAM Week program shows the wide range of pathways offered through STEAM-related fields. We would love to hear from you! Please contact your child’s teacher for more information.

> Performing Arts Showcase: ArtBEAT 2024

Please note that this year’s Performing Arts Showcase will be a live event, held on Thursday of Week 2. More details will follow soon.
