Dear parents/caregivers,
I am excited to share that planning is commencing to deliver a new $4.5 million project for the remediation and redevelopment of termite affected buildings at Woodend Primary School.
The project will demolish and replace two buildings, and remediate and refurbish a third building. The new and refurbished buildings will provide learning areas, student amenities and support spaces.
The project is commencing concept design with our project architect, Phillips/Pilkington Architects. I look forward to sharing more with you about what the finished result will look like later in the year.
We will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
Kind regards,
Steve Freeman

Steve,
That is great news about the funding and repairs.
However, that seems like an absolutely outrageous cost. Will there be some transparency on the costings?
Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt, there are 6 classrooms to be removed and rebuilt. This is in the 3 double buildings on site. They were built a number of decades ago so will likely not be compliant with today’s standards for a school, which are more stringent than a general residential building. I won’t know that costing detail but they do get competitive quotes before committing to a builder. There will be work to ensure that they are termite proof. Building costs themselves we know have risen significantly over the past few years, generally due to material costs increasing. We are however very pleased that there is progress and when we get more information I will share that on the Blog and Seesaw. Thanks for your comment Matt, kind regards, Steve
