Take Action Together is the theme for The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA), which was held on Wednesday 19th February 2020 here at Woodend.
Our school has registered as an official NDA member school and we have received information to learn more about NDA and the range of resources available to help us in our quest to find appropriate solutions to address bullying.
In addition to classroom activities, your child will have attended a whole school Assembly and received key messages about:
- defining bullying
- what to do if your child or their friend is bullied
- actions to take if your child is a bystander when bullying occurs
At assembly, students viewed short videos explaining these areas and heard from our SRC leaders about ways to address bullying. In particular there were key messages about the need to show care and kindness to each other. We particularly focus on the ‘golden rule’: ‘treat others as you would like to be treated’.
All students received a wristband as a reminder of the message to Take Action Together against bullying and violence.
We ask that you take time to listen to what your child has learnt from this National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence at Woodend. We trust that your child will understand that bullying is ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated behaviour that intends to cause harm. They should also understand that bullying is not arguments and disagreements between peers where there is no power imbalance or one-off acts of meanness or aggression. However, these conflicts still need to be addressed and resolved
