As the festive season approaches, our school community is filled with excitement and activity. With celebrations and increased movement around the school, it’s more important than ever to work together to keep everyone safe.
Crossing the Road
Teaching and modelling safe road-crossing behaviours is key to helping children develop lifelong safety habits. All children and adults should use the designated crossings on Young Street and Edward Beck Drive. Please avoid crossing elsewhere to ensure everyone’s safety.
Kiss & Go Zone
The Kiss & Go Zone is designed for quick drop-offs and pick-ups and operates during these times:
- 8:30–9:00am
- 2:30–3:30pm
This is a 2-minute-only zone for dropping off and picking up students efficiently. Please pull to the front of the zone to collect your child.
At pick-up time, the Kiss & Go Zone is supervised by a yard duty teacher until 3:20pm. Please allow enough time for your child to walk from their classroom to the pick-up area before pulling in.
Whenever possible, we encourage families to walk, ride, or scoot to school, especially with the lovely weather at this time of year. Parking is also available along Woodend Way or at Hugh Johnson Reserve, offering a safe and convenient walk to school.
Kiss & Go FAQs
1. Can I leave my car to assist my child?
You may briefly get out of your car to assist your child, but vehicles must not be left unattended in the Kiss & Go Zone. Please ensure the process is quick (e.g. not waiting for child to travel to or from the classroom).
2. What if my child needs to get in or out on the driver’s side?
Ideally, children should use the passenger side to enter or exit the car. If the driver’s side must be used, please assist your child and exercise caution to ensure safety.
3. Can staff or parent volunteers help direct traffic?
Staff and parent volunteers are not permitted to direct or monitor traffic. Staff are present to supervise students, while traffic enforcement is handled by the police or Marion Council, who may issue warnings or fines as needed.
4. Why can’t we create more parking?
We’ve explored many options to increase parking, but unfortunately, this isn’t possible. Parking on local streets is managed by Marion Council, and reserves must not be used for parking.
5. Who should I contact if I notice a traffic issue?
Marion Council oversees traffic restrictions in the area. You can report concerns using the Marion Council Customer Portal.
Thank you for the efforts you make to ensure the safety of our students and families.
