Following the events of the weekend, your child/ren may ask questions ? To help, there are a couple of fact sheets from CAMHS in relation to trauma. They appear at the end of this blogpost. As they are quite large, it may help to open them in a new Tab if asked.

How to help a child who has witnessed a traumatic event:

  • Ensure children/adolescent are safe and that their basic needs are met
  • Allow them to be sad and cry
  • Let them talk, write, draw pictures about the event and their feelings and validate their feelings
  • Limit their exposure to repetitive news reports about the traumatic event/s.

Here are some numbers that can be helpful;

  • Kids Helpline – 1800551800
  • CAMHS Trauma Information 1300222647
  • Contact local GP or local Community Health Centres
