This month we have had students participate in three SAPSASA events.  On Thursday 5th May Cross Country took place in wet and wintry conditions with moments of sunshine at Belair National Park. Well done to all Woodend students who trained and did their best to compete.
The following students have won a place to represent Southern Valley at Oakbank in the coming weeks.
Congratulations to Leni and Billy who won gold in their events.
Congratulations to Finn for his bronze medal.
Congratulations to Sophie for her 4th place.
Thank you to the parents/carers for transporting, marshalling and cheering on our students. Thank you to Mr Hehner for his help preparing the students for the day and setting up everything ready for the day. Thank you also to staff who assisted with training the students and to Mrs Sheppard for supporting on the day.
Woodend finished 2nd in the large school competition.
We would also like to acknowledge Lacey, a Year 4 student.  On the Monday 9th May, Lacey represented Southern Valley in the SAPSASA Swimming Championships.  What an achievement for Lacey!
Our third event has been SAPSASA Year 5/6 boys cricket which, due to inclement weather, was rescheduled to last Friday 13th May at Woodend’s oval. The weather was perfect.  This was their round 1 competition against Craigburn Primary.
Woodend batted first to post a total of 4/101. It was heartening to see the boys give it their best effort with the bat.
Mitchell batted very well to retire not out on 27 runs.
Charlie also batted well to retire not out on 11 runs.
Craigburn started well with the bat scoring lots of quick runs to put them in a strong position. The boys did well to pick up a few quick wickets.
Craigburn got the win and finished 7/115.
Mitchell – 2 overs 1/1
Harry – 2 overs 1/3
James – 2 overs 1/6
Billy – 2 overs 1/15
Ashton – 2 overs 1/10
Jaxon – 1 over 1/1
Charlie – 1 over 0/0
Well done to our Woodend students for representing the school so well and playing with a team spirit.
Our next events are: Southern Valley Year 5/6 Boys and Girls AFL from Wednesday 18th – Friday 20th May and the Girls AFL on Tuesday 31st May. Rugby League takes place at Happy Valley Primary School on Friday 3rd June.  All the best to those students participating in these events.
