Week 6 is Disability Inclusion Week at Woodend Primary School.

Next week we celebrate all of the diverse ways that we learn, and how learning and thinking differently makes us special. Throughout the week students will be engaging in a range of activities to understand the different ways we learn, communicate and relate to each other. We will start the conversation and kick the week off with some fun before school – rainbow arm designs to represent a range of different disabilities. After a week of activities and discussions we will wrap up with a ‘Wear What Makes You Comfortable Day’. Students are invited to wear their most comfortable (school suitable and sun safe) outfit to school.

8:30 am Monday – Rainbow Arm Painting

Meet in the Terrace, Young Street Yard or the Street from 8:30am to receive a rainbow swatch on your arm. Rainbow colours represent a range of disabilities.

Throughout the week

In library lessons and during class time your teacher will read a range of inclusion-based books, with accompanying activities.

Your class will view and discuss short videos, slideshows and presentations on the following disabilities/disorders –

Down Syndrome

Autism

Cystic Fibrosis

ADHD

Dyslexia

Communication/language Disorders

We wrap up the week with a casual day. Students are encouraged to wear anything that makes them feel comfortable. **Reminder – outfits must be sun safe and suitable for school.
