Did you know that we have a band program that offers instrumental music lessons taught by music teachers from the Department for Education Instrumental Music Service?

Our school currently has vacancies for students wishing to learn Trumpet, Trombone or Tuba and limited spaces remaining for students wishing to learn Flute, Clarinet or Saxophone. This opportunity is being readvertised to encourage more students to participate.

What is the cost?

Lessons are free BUT you will need to borrow, buy or hire an instrument – we can help you with this.  You will also need a tutor book, and consumables such as reeds or valve oil.  We can hire an IMS Instrument on your child’s behalf at a cost of $180 for the year, or you can source your own instrument. The tutor book is borrowed from the library.

What to do next?

Discuss the idea of learning an instrument with your child, including the need to be flexible with instrument choice and the commitment to continue in the program all year and practice at home.

Complete the 2021 Woodend Instrumental Music form, indicating your child’s first, second and third instrument preference. Return the completed form to your child’s teacher before this Friday the 5th of February 2021. Hard copies are available from Kerri in the office.

When and where?

Students will meet with Sue on Monday of week 3 and lessons will begin in week 4.  Students will then attend lessons for half an hour each week during school time. Additional rehearsals may be required in the lead up to performances.

Your commitment?

Once your child has started it is expected that they will attend all lessons, continue for the whole year, and practice at home!
