Welcome back to term 4. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the time with family and able to share in activities together. Many children have eagerly shared their time on STEAM investigations, camping, travelling or spending time with friends. It is obvious that students have returned eager to learn and teachers are passionate about providing a strong learning program. It will be a busy and exciting time for everyone at Woodend.
Our year 6 and year 7 students had an amazing experience visiting our nation’s capital at the end of last term. This was a culmination of their classroom learning program last term and our students were well prepared to make the most of their visit, asking deep questions and leaving an excellent impression with the people who they meet while there. Many thanks to Peta and Jarrod for their organisation of this trip and to the staff members who accompanied the students on this trip. Staff are not required to provide these experiences for students and willingly do so, often with sacrifice and inconvenience to their own families.
The term has begun with our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) focus. Thanks to the STEAM Week committee who have organised engaging incursions for students, to classroom teachers who are involving students in STEAM challenges in class and to families who have engaged in STEAM investigations during the holidays. STEAM week will culminate in our Annual Expo. The expo opens on Thursday Night and for the first time will also include musical performances by individual students, ensembles and choirs. Please see the separate blog post for further details and performance times.
