drumbeat

This year we will once again be running Drumbeat sessions for all year 5 students. The sessions will be run for 8 weeks each term with a class performance at the end. The sessions will involve 10-14 boys followed by a session for 10 – 14 girls on Friday afternoons. Students will be mixed from 2 classes each time.

We will also run an 8 week program for the year 6’s in the 5/6 class as a mixed group on Monday afternoons in term 1 to follow on from last year’s sessions. Rooms 17 & 19 year 6’s will  have their turn in term 2. Last year’s year 5 classes were very keen to continue Drumbeat this year, so we are excited about the possibilities again this year.

DRUMBEAT is a program using African Djembe drums and is an acronym for Discovering Relationships Using Music, Beliefs, Emotions, Attitudes, and Thoughts. For centuries, ancient cultures have used hand drumming to bring people together. Holyoake has drawn on this wisdom and the latest research to create the innovative, evidence-based DRUMBEAT program – an ancient solution reimagined for our modern times. It is the world’s first structured learning program using music, psychology and neurobiology to reconnect with ourselves and others.

The DRUMBEAT Program is a structured, but flexible course delivered across 8 sessions. Each session focuses on different relationship themes such as identity and social responsibility, values, dealing with emotions, peer pressure, harmony, communication and teamwork.
We are really looking forward to another great year.
