This week, Parent Network held an open meeting to share information and answer questions about our community initiatives.

Parent Network has the aim to build our community, to support the students and the school, and to help with communication and engagement.

Parent Network run a closed group on Facebook as a place to connect with other parents, ask questions, share ideas, and more. If you haven’t yet joined the group, simply click the link and request to be added.

Our members have initiated a number of fantastic events & services for our school community… these will continue to grow in 2018, with your help!

We know there is a lot happening around Woodend, if there is even just ONE thing that you could offer your help with – one thing that you are interested in, or passionate about, or would like to be a part of in 2018 – your help will make a massive difference.

Woodend Market Day:

This term we have held our 4th market day, here at Woodend, and this event continues to grow and grow. In 2018 we will have markets in terms 1 & 4 – save the date for our term 1 market on Sunday March 25!

We have received so many wonderful ideas for growing this event into a successful school-wide & community-wide event – but in order to make that happen we do need help! If you have ideas that you would love to add to the Market Day, or if you can help out in any way, we would love to have you join the team!

Thank you to our 2017 market day volunteers for all of your work on this event this year, you have created something wonderful for our community.

Student Banking

Student banking – via Commonwealth Bank – is a free service offered to Woodend students, run completely by parent volunteers. Students receive prizes each term simply for depositing into their personal bank account each week, and the School earns funds for this program as well! In the first week of term 1, 2018, information about this program will be shared with all families.

Each week week we do need adult volunteers to help us process the banking! This only takes 1.5 – 2 hours per week and helping out even once per month makes a big difference!

Thank you to our 2017 student banking volunteers. This program would not be possible without you!

Mother’s Day / Father’s Day Stalls

Next year, we will be holding Mother’s Day & Father’s Day stalls for the first time at Woodend! This is an exciting initiative for our school – one that many families have asked for over the years – a way to support our students giving a small gift of thanks to someone special in their lives.

We will require parent volunteers to help organize and run these stalls, and we will actually need to get started right away!

Thank you to the parents who can help make this happen!

Other community events?

What else would help support the students and parents of Woodend? In recent years we have had guest speakers at our school, we have organized movie nights and social nights, we have had a parent’s cafe in our kitchen… and we are certainly open to ideas for 2018. Funds raised by Parent Network initiatives support future events and initiatives.

The parent network is open to any parents or carers who would love to help build a strong school community: How could you get involved? What are you passionate about supporting at our school? We would love to have you join us in 2018.

Thank you to our 2017 Parent Network.
